Anti-liquor activists to organise campaign

Samithi activists say consumption

of liquor has gone up considerably

in the State.


KOCHI: The State convention of Madhyavarjana Samithi Shanthisena Council will be held at St. Mary’s High School hall at Vallarpadom on Sunday.

P.N. Raveendran, Kerala High Court judge, will inaugurate the event. M. Beena, District Collector, will inaugurate the delegates meet.

Kuriakose G. Valavi, general convener of the programme, said here on Friday that the convention will request the government not to open liquor bars in the State before 10 a.m. He said that the government should amend the Excise Act allowing the bars to open from early morning. Samithi representatives said that the consumption of liquor has gone up considerably in the State.

The samithi will continue organising awareness programmes against the widespread consumption of liquor in the State.
