BELLARY: Mallepuram Venkatesh of Kannada University, Hampi; Itagi Eeranna, well-known for his Kannada “shayaris”; Shivakumar Swamy of Kuvempu University; and Padma Gururajachar are among the 10 teachers who will be conferred the Dr. H. Narasimhaiah Award instituted by the Subhash Bharani Vedike. The awards will be given away at a function organised to celebrate Teachers’ Day and Kannada Rajyotsava at Dr. Joladarashi Doddanagouda Rangamandir here on Sunday at 11 a.m. Three recipients of this year’s Rajyotsava Award — B.K. Srinivasmurthy, Ravi Belagere, and P. Vali — will be felicitated, and a book, “Abhinava Kalidas Basappa Shastri”, by Nellikatte Siddesh, will be released on the occasion. B. Devanand, in-charge director of the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary, Lakshman Goud, N. Basavaraj, Syed Hussain, K. Basavaraj and S. Manjunath are the other teachers who will receive the award. G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism; B. Sriramulu, Minister for Health and Family Welfare; Subhash Bharani, former Additional Director-General of Police; G. Somashekar Reddy, Bellary city MLA; and Mayor Shobha Narayan will participate in the function, according to C. Manjunath, vedike president.
