dated November 24, 1958: GATT session

The 13th session of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) ended in Geneva on November 22 with an announcement of special new steps to promote international trade. Three committees have been appointed to study the three main points discussed at the five-week session. They were — proposals for a new round of tariff negotiations between the 37 GATT member States which control over 85 per cent of the world’s trade, procedures under which the GATT can overcome the obstacles to trade expansion inherent in national agricultural policies and measures for expanding trade.
