Cinema ticket rates - Reader's Mail

The proposed hike in the prices of cinema tickets will affect the run of low-budget movies in theatres. Unlike here, there is a flexibility of fixing the admission rates in America and other developed countries. As special offers like concession on admission rates there, audience prefer to watch movies on such occasions and the exhibitors screen low-budget movies every now and then. Besides allowing the exhibitors to increase or decrease the price, the provision of changing the number of shows a day will also help the survival of low-budget movies. Instead of the existing practice of screening four shows a day, the managements should be allowed to reduce the number of shows, based on the response from audience. It will help them save unnecessary expenditure like fat electricity bills.

Run direct buses

In the absence of direct buses, students of Housing Board Colony are finding it difficult to go to colleges like Andhra Loyola, Maris Stella, Sarada and Satavahana in the city. Earlier, there were services like 14A, 3C, 5C and 34, which were very convenient to students and employees. Now, one does not know whether the buses will come in time or not and one has to take at least two buses to reach the college. It is desirable if the APSRTC gives a second thought and revives these services again. Since the wholesale market is located next to HB Colony, there will be no dearth of business for the APSRTC.

IRCTC refund

At present, getting refund on cancellation of tickets reserved from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation is time-consuming, as the facility of getting the refund from the reservation counters is not available. A certificate has to be taken from the authorities in case of late running to train and submit it at the commercial manager’s office. It may take even a month’s time to get back the money. The railway authorities are requested to liberalise the procedure.

Pensioners’ medicare

The Central Government employees are being paid Rs. 100 per month towards medical expenses along with their pension, whereas the pensioners residing in metro cities are enjoying free medical facilities like doctor’s check up, tests, medicines and surgeries. The meagre amount of Rs. 100 a month is not sufficient even for consultation. There are clinics for postal employees at district headquarters.

I request the authorities to allow pensioners of other departments to use the facility at these clinics.
