Painting contest a big draw
Special Correspondent
VISAKHAPATNAM: ‘Portrayal-08’, a painting competition for schoolchildren held as a curtain raiser to a host of activities in the run-up for the Navy Day celebrations, on Sunday evoked tremendous response with nearly 1,200 children taking part in it. The fleet maintenance unit of the Eastern Naval Command organised the event for children of city schools at the Swarna Bharati Municipal Indoor Stadium.
Children from several schools took part in the competition, which was held under three different categories of sub-junior, junior and senior groups. Themes of ‘Sail Boats at Sea’ and ‘Marine Environment’ were given beforehand to the sub-junior group, ‘Ships at Sea’ and ‘Landscape form Sea’ to the juniors group, while the themes for the seniors, announced only at the venue, were ‘Men in White – Flag Bearers of the Nation’ and ‘ Natural Disasters and Rescue of Personnel in Distress’. Children from ‘special’ schools were invited once again to take part in the event.
