‘Congress to spell out stand on Telangana before polls’

Staff Reporter

Moily misquoted on introduction of bill, says Srinivas

WARANGAL: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas stated that his party would spell out its stand on separate Telangana well before the ensuing general elections. He stated that it was necessary for the party high command to take a final decision on the issue.

Taking part in the Meet-the-Press programme here on Sunday, he said that since his party included the separate State issue in its agenda during the last general election, it was necessary that a final decision is taken on the issue.

When reminded that the AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily’s statement that it was not possible to introduce a Bill in the next session of the Parliament, the PCC chief blamed the media for “misquoting” Mr. Moily.

“I spoke to Mr. Moily and he had clarified that he was misquoted by the media on the separate State issue. Wait for sometime there would be a definite decision on the separate Telangana,” he added.

He said there was no need for his party to submit a letter to the Pranab Mukherjee Committee, as the Congress was the leading party in the UPA and would take a final decision after eliciting the opinions of different parties at the national level.

Party ticket

Referring to tickets to the BCs, the PCC chief said that the party had promised 33 per cent tickets to the BCs in the general elections.

Mr Srinivas stated that many film personalities were joining the Congress as there were differences among the film stars. “If Chiranjeevi floats a party, his opponents cannot keep calm and they are joining the better alternative that is Congress,” he said.
