News Analysis
* * The President’s name is Pratibha Devisingh Patil and not Devi Singh Patel as in the text of the report “New issues, old ties mark Pratibha’s visit to Indonesia, Vietnam” (November 24, 2008). * * The name of one of the persons said to be involved in the Malegaon blast is Dayanand Pandey. It was wrongly given as Dayanand Saraswati by Neena Vyas in the report “Punish terrorists, but don’t defame Hindu outfits: RSS” (November 23, 2008). * * Indian Overseas Bank was founded by M.Ct.M. Chidambaram Chettyar on February 10, 1937. It was wrongly mentioned as 1936 in the Chennai report, “Public sector banks are pillars of financial sector” (November 23, 2008). * * “Indian Ambassador to Russia Prabhat Shukla awarded a commemorative plague to Mr. Shevardenidze…” (Newscape, early editions, November 23, 2008). That is quite a harmful typo for plaque. * * S.S. Sharma, Joint secretary, was the leader of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes team which visited the Royapettah Hospital to meet a student injured in the clashes in the Law College in Chennai. The team leader’s name was wrongly mentioned as V.K. Rathi, Director, in the Chennai report, “Law college students target BSP leader” (November 16, 2008). This was based on information given by police sources. The correction follows a communication from the Director, NCSC, Chennai. * * The Chief Executive Officer of Fiat India Automobiles is Rajeev Kapoor and not Deepak Kapoor as stated in the report, “Fiat way to tackle market slowdown” (Business, November 23, 2008). It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
