VIJAYAWADA: G. Dyvasirvadam, Bishop of Krishna-Godavari Diocese in the Church of South India, and Mallavarapu Prakash, Catholic Bishop, on Monday hailed the permission given by the Government to fill vacant teacher posts in Christian minority institutions across the State. On behalf of the Churches’ Federation in the State, the two bishops said at a press conference that the latest decision of the Government would restore standards in the schools run by the minority institutions. They said that the students belonging to weaker sections and also street children would get support and succour because of this move. They said there were 247 schools in Krishna district under the control of the Krishna-Godavari Diocese, while there were 77 schools in West Godavari district. These schools were providing educational opportunities for the students hailing from marginalised sections of society for several decades. Bishop Dyvasirvadam said all over the State, the Government had given permission for filling 3,600 teacher posts in minority-aided schools. ong Christian minorities, permission was given for filling about 600 teacher posts out of the 3,600 posts. The minority institutions were providing infrastructural facilities for boarding and lodging to the poor students even in remote corners of the State, he added.
