KSEB customer care centre for Kollam

Ignatius Pereira

Final approval and administrative sanction awaited

Customer care centres planned in all districts

Complaints to be accepted at such centres

KOLLAM: The first customer care centre of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will come up in Kollam.

The proposal will be submitted this week for final approval and administrative sanction. According to a draft plan prepared in this connection, the centre will be located on KSEB land at High School junction.

A new building is to be constructed for the purpose. All KSEB services and general information connected with electricity offices will be available at the centre.

All complaints except power supply issues will be accepted at the centre, sources said.

The centre will comprise a lounge, a pubic information centre and cash counters. Official sources told The Hindu that the centre will be the pilot customer-care project of the board.

The electricity board had plans to open customer-care centres in all the districts, sources said.

Work resumes

Work on upgrade of the 66 kV Ayathil substation to a 110 kV resumed last Thursday. Work had come to a standstill because the contractor who had taken up the laying of the 13-km 110-KV double-circuit feeder line breached the contract all of a sudden and left, sources said.

The feeder line from the 220 kV Kundara sub-station is being laid through forty-six newly erected 110 kV pylons. Only 4 km of the feeder line had been laid so far.

The Kundara sub-station will continue to be the source for the Ayathil sub-station. The upgrade will enhance the installed capacity of the Ayathil sub-station from 25 mega volt ampere (MVA) to 37.5 MVA.

The commissioning of the upgraded Ayathil sub-station was scheduled for April last, sources added.

Administrative sanction is expected soon for a Rs.27-crore 110 kV gas insulated substation (GIS) of the KSEB at Kollam.

The commissioning of the GIS is scheduled for 2011, sources in the board said.
