Letters to the Editor
There cannot be a better testimony to the farcical nature of the Duckworth/Lewis method than India’s victory against England on Sunday in the fourth ODI of the seven-match cricket series. Despite scoring 12 runs more than India in 22 overs, England ended up losing. The D/L method has always been unfair to the team batting second. It is time the formula was scrapped in the interest of cricket. R. Anantha Rama Krishnan, Chennai It is unfortunate that England lost twice in three days because of the D/L formula. I feel sorry for the England team, which lost despite a wonderful performance. K.R.K. Prabhakara Murty, Vijayawada India’s win in the Bangalore ODI is a mockery of the game. To declare a team a loser even when it has scored more runs but lost more wickets is irrational. It is time we did away with the D/L formula. What we want is fair play, not a statistical gamble. S.S. Rajagopalan, Chennai
