Man held for forging cheque

ADILABAD: Adilabad police on Monday arrested Samanapalli Vijay alias Vinayak Rao of Vidyanagar for withdrawing nearly Rs. 5 lakh from the main branch of SBH here by forging a cheque. The entire cash involved in the incident of May was recovered by the police.

Producing the accused at a press conference, Adilabad Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar and Assistant Superintendent of Police Tarun Joshi said due to the negligence of bank officials the accused could walk away with the cash.

Negligence

The negligence of bank officials was very visible because they allowed a cheque with over writing to be passed.

The officials concerned had left the cheque lying on the counter. Vijay managed to grab the instrument and presented it with a forged signature of the account holder, the officers pointed out.

Precautions

Mr. Anil Kumar circulated among pressmen certain precautions that needed to be taken by bankers and customers so that such incidents do not take place in future.

He also wanted bankers to report incidence of circulation of counterfeit currency whenever it comes to their notice.
