ANU posts big win over Karnatak

VIJAYAWADA: Acharya Najarjuna University defeated Karnatak University 35-8 and later drew with Madras University 16-16 in the league fixtures of the South Zone inter-university kabaddi tournament for men at the ANU grounds at Guntur on Monday.

In the other league matches, Annamalai got the better of Bangalore 25-21, while Periyar University outclassed TN Physical Education and Sports University 35-10.

Eight teams — Annamalai, Periyar, Madras, Acharya Nagarjuna, Bangalore, TN Physical Education and Sports, Bharathidasan and Karnatak — have made it the league.

The results (league): Madras University bt Bharathidasan 48-10; Annamalai bt Bangalore 25-21; Periyar bt TN Physical Education 35-10; ANU bt Karnatak 35-8.

Joint winners

Andhra Pradesh Basketball Association on Monday declared Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy in the men’s section and Hyderabad and Kurnool in the women’s section as joint winners as the finals failed to take place owing to heavy downpour on Sunday at Anantapur. Krishna and Guntur took the third place in the men’s and women’s segments respectively.

Carrom camp

A 12-member South Zone carrom team is undergoing a coaching camp at the IGMC Stadium to take part in the all-India inter-zonal championship to be held at Dehradun from November 29. The camp was inaugurated by District Sports Development Officer B. Sudhakar on Monday.

Amali HS wins title

Amali High School defeated Nirmala High School 15-2, 15-2 to win the badminton title in the Vijayawada Urban zone boys games meet organised by SKPVV Hindu High School at the Rail Stadium here on Monday.

The results (all finals): Volleyball: Madonna HS bt STVR MCHS 25-21, 25-22.

Kabaddi: VAM HS bt SKPVV HHS (Gandhinagar) 34-12.

Softball: Nirmala HS bt St. Joseph’s EMHS 12-2.

Throwball: Nirmala HS bt RCM HS (Pezzonipet) 25-15, 25-22.
