Harbingers of change

The establishment of temples can be termed reformation in Hinduism, a real democratic change, says the revered Sadguru Kandukuri Sivananda Murthy of Anandavanam in Bheemunipatnam. “Until the temples were constructed, it was the Brahmins who dominated the religion. For, only they were said to be eligible to perform yagas and other rituals. On the other hand, the advent of temples is meant only to enable people belonging to all castes worship God on an equal footing,” he points out.

Kudos to ENC

The Eastern Naval Command’s annual Navy Week celebrations have begun again. The week will culminate in the Navy Day celebration next month. As a part of it, the ENC on Monday organised a trip for special children onboard a ship. For children going on board a ship or a day at sea is a memorable experience. But the Navy deserves kudos for organising an outing for all those special children who struggle a lot with their daily life. It needs meticulous planning to take such a large number of special children. It reminds society of the sensitive role it is expected to play when it concerns special children.

Closing the gap!

Police over-action is glaringly evident whenever VVIPs visit. And the police reacted too much by putting heavy barricading and preventing people from having a close glimpse of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. As a result, despite his arrival at Nehru Chowk in Anakapalle one and half hours behind schedule on Sunday, the large stretch of front space remained vacant.

A shrewd politician that he is, Dr. Reddy immediately made an assessment of the situation and asked the people to break the barricades and come close to him. People too responded instantly when he thundered in his own style “barricades baddalu gotti munduku randi” (break the barricades and come to the front).

In bad condition

Passengers travelling by the super luxury buses of the APSRTC on the Visakhapatnam-Kakinada non-stop service feel that the buses should be replaced immediately with new buses.

The buses have outlived their existence, feel the passengers as every thing inside is old and almost in a depilated stage. Arm-rests of the seats are without cushions in most cases; one has to struggle a bit to push the window glass panes; the overhead air vents which are meant for the comfort of each individual passenger are only ornamental and at some places only holes are visible; there is no video or audio system; pouches to keep small articles and newspapers are torn and the elastic belt over a small compartment to keep the water bottle are not to be seen. In spite of all these discomforts the passengers are charged a higher fare compared to other types of buses being operated on the non-stop service. Some passengers say the journey by these buses takes more time. Instead of 3 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes time that should be taken to reach Kakinada from here, the super luxury bus takes nearly 15 minutes to 30 minutes more.
