‘No confusion on LPG distribution’

KOZHIKODE: The District LPG Consumers Protection Committee affiliated to Kozhikode District Consumer Protection Committee has asked customers to pay only the sum specified in the bill when LPG cylinders were delivered.

V. Raghavan Nair opined that there was no need for any confusion on the matter.

He explained that in case a higher sum than the specified rate of Rs.351.50 ps. was presented to the consumer, the latter could bring the matter before the District Collector or other authorities concerned.

The consumer can also bring the issue for redress before the Consumer Redress Forum. In such cases the consumer can claim damages including payment of compensation Mr. Nair said.

The District Collector A. Jayathilak was only re-enforcing the rule in force with regard to delivery charges of LPG cylinder. He had not issued any new order. The rule in force was based on the notification issued by the then District Collector Bishwanath Sinha in 2001. The delivery charge that was levied by gas agencies since 2003 was illegal. The present order of the District Collector was only to prevent this. The forum further said there was no justification in the reported statement of the Director of Civil Supplies Department.
