Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: The Ombudsman for Local Self-Government Institutions M.R. Hariharan Nair has directed hotels, lodges and fish markets to set up biogas plants within three months to prevent pollution of the surroundings through discharge of effluents.

Based on a complaint filed by a pollution control forum against the Kasaragod municipality at a sitting held here on Tuesday, Mr. Hariharan Nair asked those concerned to ensure that effluents did not pollute the surroundings of a temple nearby. The Socio Economic Unit Foundation has been asked to set up the biogas plant. As many as 26 complaints from Kasaragod and Kannur districts were taken up at the sitting.
