State urged to take up LPP canal works

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) on Tuesday demanded either taking up of the right flank canal of Lower Penganga Project (LPP) immediately or a public apology by the government for reneging on its promise. Party leaders criticised the Congress government for initiating ‘eyewash’ measures in Telangana district in view of the coming elections.

At a press conference, former Zilla Parishad Chairperson and TRS leader Ch. Suhasini Reddy and others said the announcement of a lift irrigation scheme on the Penganga as a substitute for the right canal of the LPP was only an eyewash. The government had done so in view of the pressure built by party president K. Chandrshekhar Rao who was touring the district now, besides the padayatra undertaken recently by Ms. Suhasini Reddy to highlight the long-standing demand.

The leaders demanded release of the government’s share of funds for construction of the canal.
