BJP and terrorism

I agree that terrorists are not just those who plant bombs. Those who kill in the name of ideology are also terrorists (Letters, Nov. 24). Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has rightly defended the investigations by the Anti-Terrorism Squad into the Malegaon blast, at the same time directing the NSA to brief the Leader of the Opposition on the facts of the case.

It is unfortunate that the BJP has chosen to defend the blast accused. Clearly, the party sees the Malegaon episode as another opportunity to polarise voters. The alleged involvement of an army officer in the blast is a shame on the armed forces.

When Mushirul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia, offered legal assistance to students suspected of being involved in the Delhi serial blasts, the BJP dubbed him anti-national. But today, the party’s top leadership is bent on defending sadhvi Pragnya Singh Thakur and others accused of involvement in the Malegaon blast. Is it not anti-national?
