Letters to the Editor
This is in response to the article “Pluralist society threatened” (Open Page, Nov. 23). The author has been grossly negligent in checking the source of the quote “Hubul Watan, Minal Imaan” (Love for your nation is part of your faith). He has attributed what is possibly a Sufi/Shia saying to the Holy Koran. Let it be made clear that there is no such verse in the Koran. The Jamia Millia founders might have conformed to such a notion but to lend credence to it by giving it a divine origin is inaccurate and deceptive. The authenticity of the saying in question is disputed. It is regarded by many mainstream (Sunni) Islamic scholars as well as some Shia scholars as fabricated. Shujahat Hussain, Hyderabad
