Cable operators seek tax exemption
HYDERABAD: The AP Multi-System Operators’ Welfare Association, which represents more than 60,000 cable operators across the State, on Tuesday appealed to the government to withdraw the entertainment tax and reduce the pole tax.
In a representation to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, leaders of the association, headed by former legislator Ambati Rambabu who is also their chief adviser, urged for an exemption on entertainment tax, along with waiver of outstanding taxes, as the cable operators were already remitting service tax. They recalled that Tamil Nadu has already such an exemption.
Regarding the pole tax, they stated that the operators should be given permission to lay cables through electric poles, without obstructing power cables. They offered to pay Rs.151 for a pole each year. They demanded a separate board, with five members from outside, for redressal of grievances.
Although G.O. 443 was issued last year with five members, 12 operators’ representatives and three from the government, no meeting was convened so far.
