“Land sold with forged papers”

TIRUCHI: A group of villagers of Neikulam in Lalgudi taluk presented a petition to Collector T. Soundiah on Monday demanding action against people who had allegedly sold agricultural lands belonging to 10 farmers after forging documents.

Producing their patta pass books, the villagers led by State secretary of Tamizhaga Vivasaiygal Sangam R. Raja Chidambaram said that they had not sold their land that abutted Nambukurichi village to anybody .

They complained that the land had been sold to buyers in faroff places, the power of attorney was obtained at Pullambadi in neighbouring district of Ariyalur while the registration was made at the Sub Registrar Office, Chettikulam, in Tiruchi district, on different dates.

The land transfers of such transactions were subsequently recorded at the taluk level. The issue came to light when the VAO was asked to corroborate the status of land measuring 21 acres that included the 14 acres and 14 cents holdings of the 10 farmers. The villagers wanted the district administration to ensure that the original documents were restored at the taluk level. They said that the Collector had promised to conduct an RDO enquiry.
