‘Potholes on all major roads in the State will be filled before December-end’ District in-charge Ministers asked to conduct review meeting once in two weeks Raichur: D.V. Sadananda Gowda, State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Wednesday said that a meeting of party legislators would be held next month to discuss steps to be taken to improve the transport system in the State and speed up distribution of ration cards to families living below the poverty line. He told presspersons here that that one should not expect complete progress in development schemes in just six months. The party would take a firm decision in the next 15 days to speed up all ongoing and pending development projects in the State. It had been decided to give priority to fill potholes on all major roads in the State, and the task would be completed before December-end, he said. To a question, he said the party might change its candidates in one or two constituencies where byelections are to be held. It would be done if the alternative candidates had a better chance of winning. It was hoped that the party would win all seats in the byelections, he said. On the continuing power crisis in the State, Mr. Gowda said the Government has chalked out a programme to add about 4,000 MW to the State grid in the next two years, and this needed an investment of Rs. 28,000 crore. The Government had sought cooperation from the Centre in this regard, and the latter had agreed to extend financial support for it. He said the district in-charge Ministers had been asked to conduct review meeting once in two weeks to keep a watch on the progress of ongoing development projects in their respective districts. An official order would be issued in this direction soon, he added. Later addressing a public meeting at Deodurga, he said the BJP Government was committed to the development of irrigation sector and solving the problems faced by farmers.
