KOLLAM: At a function to be held in Karunagapally on Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will hand over the keys of 118 houses constructed for the tsunami victims of Alapad. The houses were constructed with funds provided by the Maharashtra government. The function will be presided over by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy will address the function. Maharashtra Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam and 10 Ministers from the Kerala Cabinet will attend the programme. The Maharashtra government is constructing 250 houses on 11.21 acres of land. The keys to be handed over on Thursday are those at Adinad and Kulasekharapuram that have been completed. The construction of the remaining 132 houses is progressing. Apart from these houses, a block to house 10 class rooms at the Azheekal Government High School and a multi-storey complex for the Karunagapally Taluk Hospital are also being constructed with financial aid from the Maharashtra government. At the function Mr. Deshmukh will hand over the keys to Mr. Achuthanandan.
