NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Union Government, the Sports Authority of India and the National Dope Testing Laboratory on a petition by woman weightlifter L. Monika Devi and others seeking a direction for setting guidelines for resolution of disputes in sports relating to doping, selection of teams and maintenance of discipline among players. Issuing the notices, a Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice A.P. Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the respondents to file replies to the petition by January 7. Another prayer of the petitioners is to set aside all ongoing proceedings against Monika Devi relating to the dope tests. Monika had been barred from participating in the Beijing Olympics this year when she had tested positive in a dope test. Seeking withdrawal of all proceedings against her, Monika through her lawyer P. Ramesh Kumar submitted that the test report was illegal as it was conducted in violation of the World Anti-Doping Agency guidelines. She also sought compensation for alleged mental harassment she had been subjected to and action against the sports officials responsible for it.
