VISAKHAPATNAM: Holding of rallies, meetings and seminars on child rights among schoolchildren were the highlights during the Child rights Week conducted at Araku, Vizianagaram, S. Kota and Bagmaravavalasa. During the week observed by Nature, a local NGO, discussions were held on child rights implementation machinery and service delivery, legal codification and shortcomings, delivery of health, education, nutrition and strategies to prevent child abuse. Rallies were taken out at eight locations with placards and banners depicting the rights of children and the need to protect them. At the valedictory function held on Friday, it was decided to form more child clubs to popularise a child- focused viewpoint and orient children on the four basic fundamental child rights viz. right to survive, development, participation and protection. Art and painting competitions were held to inspire the creative articulation and talent of the children. Sports meets were also organised. Coinciding with the birth anniversary of Nehru, quiz and debate competitions were held.
