ICL issue not on Butt’s agenda

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board has made it clear that giving official recognition to the Indian Cricket League will not be on the agenda when PCB chairman Ejaz Butt meets BCCI president Shashank Manohar early next month.

“Basically, the purpose of Butt going to India is to hold talks with the BCCI president and that is very important for us. The ICL will not be part of the discussions,” a PCB official said.

The PCB has sent a request to its Indian counterpart to arrange a meeting between Butt and the BCCI president on December 3 to discuss about India’s tour of Pakistan.

During the meeting, Butt would also dwell on the revised itinerary for the tour as Rawalpindi, which was due to host a Test and an ODI, has now been dropped because the renovation work is not yet complete.

Even if Butt fails to visit India, he would meet the BCCI officials in Colombo where the Asian Cricket Council meeting is scheduled for December 5, the official said.

Due to the volatile situation in Pakistan, India’s tour scheduled to begin on January 3, is currently hanging fire.

Pakistan considers the series highly important and sources said Interior Ministry officials had assured an Indian delegation that the government would provide foolproof security to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men during the tour.

Salary cut

Meanwhile, Pakistani cricketers are a concerned lot with reports claiming that the board is set to revise their central contracts which might result in salary cuts.

A proposal to revise the central contracts, its terms and a reduction in monetary benefits for the players, is under consideration but nothing is final as yet. — PTI
