VIZIANAGARAM: The Students Federation of India district committee has urged the government to release scholarships, tuition and special fee as the college managements have not been accepting examination fee for non-payment of tuition fee. After staging a dharna at the Collector’s office here on Thursday, SFI leader A. Jagan Mohan Rao said that the government promised to pay tuition fee to BCs also on par with SCs and STs, but the amount was not specified. Demanding that the fee be paid as per the present prescribed structure, Mr. Jagan said that the government had been reimbursing Rs.675 and Rs.1,050 for Intermediate and degree students respectively against the prescribed fee of Rs.3,500 and Rs.6,000; Rs.7,000 for SCs and STs and Rs.1,400 for BCs against the fixed fee of Rs.12,500 for M.Com and MA courses and Rs.17,000 for SCs and STs against Rs.24,000 for MBA and MCA courses. Similar is the order for pot-graduate courses in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology etc. With regard to examination fee, the government pays Rs.300 per year against Rs.410 and Rs.450 for each semester. Again BCs were not paid the amount. With the government’s announcement, a number of BCs joined PG courses in science subjects but the government had not so far paid even a rupee, Mr. Jagan said.
