This Day That Age
Mr. John Diefenbaker, Canadian Prime Minister, told a press conference in Colombo on November 26 that the chief motive behind Canadian assistance to under-developed Commonwealth countries of Asia was the desire to raise the economic standards of those countries. It was farthest from Canadian minds to impose, by means of the aid programme, any new pattern of life on the recipients, he said. The Canadian Prime Minister covered subjects ranging from China’s admission to the United Nations to the proposed merger of Ghana and Guinea. Mr. Diefenbaker said he had been deeply impressed by his visit to India where he had had “full and interesting” discussions with Prime Minister Nehru.
