Raichur: Tension prevailed for some time at Ankali Math in Lingsugur taluk when a person allegedly attacked Veerabhadra Swamy of the math on Thursday. According to reports reaching here, the incident took place when the swamiji was attending to his disciples on the math premises. Yamunappa, one of the disciples, reportedly attacked the swamiji with an axe without any provocation. The other disciples, after rescuing the swamiji, reportedly assaulted Yamunappa, injuring him severely. The reason for the attack on the swamiji is not known. The situation was brought under control after a police team arrived on the spot. The swamiji, who received minor injuries on his neck, was treated at the Government hospital in Lingsugur town. The accused has been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Super-speciality Hospital in Raichur.
