Chandraswami’s appeal dismissed

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed appeals by self-styled godman Chandraswami and another person challenging a judgment by a Single Bench dismissing their petitions against an order by a Tribunal for Foreign Exchange here in a Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation case.

The Single Bench of the Court had dismissed their applications for waiver of pre-deposit of penalty as a condition for hearing their appeals against an order by the Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate here in the case.

The Deputy Director had held the two guilty of withdrawing 149,000 dollars from the non-resident external account of a resident of Leichtenstein from the R.K. Puram branch of Canara Bank in South Delhi without permission of the Reserve Bank of India.
