Proposals sent to government seeking financial assistance, says V-C If money is a constraint, JNTU is eager to adopt private-public partnership model Kakinada: JNTU, Kakinada, has an ambitious plan to set up constituent colleges in all districts under its purview in addition to the existing ones (University Colleges of Engineering) at Kakinada and Vizianagaram, to be directly accessible to students in the respective areas. If the government is constrained by paucity of funds, the university will seek permission for adopting the private- public partnership model under which it was offered land in some districts on revenue sharing basis. “However, it is for the government to take an appropriate decision in the interest of the newly-formed university,” said Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao. Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Prof. Appa Rao said the establishment of constituent colleges would not only provide easy access to the students but also bolster the brand image of the institution. Proposals were sent to the government seeking financial assistance for creation of infrastructure and to expand the research and development activities. The building of University College of Engineering at Vizianagaram was on verge of completion. Efforts were being made to augment the facilities in Kakinada college. As regards the academic programmes, Prof. Rao said he mooted introduction of an integrated Master of Technology course initially in the University Colleges of Engineering at Kakinada and Vizianagaram, which required the approval of the All India Council of Technical Education. The university is currently negotiating with the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for training its students in optical electronics. A team of BEL is coming to discuss the matter early next month. The university has also reached a formal understanding with the Indian School of Business (ISB) for setting up ‘JNTU (Kakinada) School of Business’ as a sequel to launching of the MBA course last week. ISB Dean M. Rammohan Rao was appointed chairman of a committee formed for the said purpose, Prof. Rao added. Earlier, Prof. Rao hosted a lunch for teaching and non-teaching staff of the university to mark its completion of 100 days. On the occasion, he reiterated his commitment to develop the university into a world class institution and sought their cooperation. Registrar V. Ravindra, JNTU Engineering College principal E.V. Prasad and others were present.
