5,000 shifted to relief centres

Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM: Incessant rain in the last two days has inundated low-level areas and damaged roads in several parts of the district.

Around 5,000 people have been evacuated and moved to 11 relief centres set up at different places. A culvert on Sriperumpudur-Oragadam-Singaperumalkoil Road collapsed on Thursday. Trees on Thirukazhukundram-Chengalpattu Road near Thirukazhukundram and on Kancheepuram-Vellore Road at Sirukaveripakkam were uprooted in strong wind and fell on the carriageway on Wednesday. The district administration has opened a monsoon control room at the Collectorate in Kancheepuram with a toll free no. 1077, official sources said.
