dated November 29, 1958: Promotion of peace

The interest with which Norway was watching the political, economic and social development of India, as they were bound to have a decisive effect on world developments, and the admiration his country had for the purposeful way in which India was working for her material and cultural progress was expressed by the Norwegian Prime Minister, Mr. Einar Gerhardsen, when he was addressing members of both Houses of Parliament in New Delhi on November 28. Mr. Gerhardsen said, “It is a strange experience for me, as a representative of one of the smallest democratic countries in the world, to address the national assembly of the world’s largest democratic nation. The people of Norway deeply admire the purposeful way in which India is working for the material and cultural progress of their people.”
