Three injured in hut collapse in Krishnagiri

KRISHNAGIRI: As rain lashed the district for the third consecutive day on Friday, a hut collapsed injuring three people, including a pregnant woman. The incident occurred near Nagarasampatti and the injured are Gangadevi (20), her sister Devi (16) and brother Devan (19). The district administration declared holiday for all educational institutions on Friday.

District Collector V.K. Shanmugam has advised people living on the banks of South Pennaru to move to safer places. In case of emergency they can contact the control room set up at the collectorate on toll free No: 1077 or 04343 – 239200 and 232600, says a press release.

Krishnagiri district registered a highest rainfall of 45.6 mm. The rainfall recorded in mm at the following are: Uthankarai (35), Renugondapuram (38.2), Pochampalli (35.2), Bargur (37.2), Nedunkal (30.2), Anchetti (21), Thali (7), Denkanikottai (32) Royakottai (21), Hosur (20) and Sulagiri (24).

The district registered a total rainfall of 346.4 mm. The average rainfall in the district was 28.8 mm.

Dharmapuri

In Dharmapuri district, the Vaniyaru Dam at Pappireddypatti union became full and the excess water was released to Venkatasamudram, Alapuram, Ombiampatti, Thenkaraikottai, Parapapatti and Kanakkan areas. People living in low-lying areas have been asked to move to safer places. Pappireddypatti registered a highest rainfall of 91 mm for the past 24 hours. According to the district administration, the rainfall registered in mm till 8 a.m. on Friday are: Harur (80), Dharmapuri (52), Palacode (39), Pennagaram (34) and Collectorate (58).
