WIRING THE STATE: Nagendra Venkswamy (left), Managing Director, Juniper Networks, with Sridhar Sarathy, Vice-President, India Operations, at a press conference in Jodhpur on Friday.

JODHPUR: A global networking major co-founded by an Indian, is helping key Indian States create the information backbone that will carry hundreds of citizens’ services. California-based Juniper Networks, a world number one in single socket layer virtual private networks (SSL-VPN) and a key player in high performance networking, is working with the Chhattisgarh Government to create a State-wide WiMAX network that will carry 130 citizen services through voice, data and video.

The company co-founded in 1996 by Pradeep Sindhu (its Chief Technology Officer now) has its largest non-U.S. R&D team, 1,200 strong, in Bangalore.

The centre has played key roles in the development of many of its flagship products like the EX series of switches, explained Sridhar Sarathy, Vice-President for India operations, during a media seminar here on Friday.

Many of these products form part of the deployment in Chhattisgarh and in earlier State-wide networks in Himachal Pradesh and Bihar, he added.

Juniper has joined with companies such as TCS and HP in such large projects which are among the biggest telecom infrastructure tasks undertaken in the country.

India Managing Director Nagendra Venkaswamy said the networking leader has also helped Sify roll out its managed security services in India this week, fuelled by Juniper’s adaptive threat management solution.
