NMDC scouting for consultants

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), the country’s single largest producer and exporter of iron ore, is scouting for consultants for carrying out the due diligence on its proposed steel plant in Chhattisgarh.

Headquartered in Hyderabad, NMDC’s iron ore mines are located in Chhattisgarh where it now proposes to set up a value-addition facility with this plant which will come up at Nagarpur near Jagdalpur, 350 km from the State capital.

This marks a complete upstream diversification for the public sector company.

The foundation for this three million tonnes per annum plant was laid jointly by the Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh in August this year and efforts were on to implement the project within 36 months so as to unveil it on August 15, 2011.

An investment of Rs. 12,000 crore has been earmarked for the project.
