Parapet wall of school building damaged

PUDUKOTTAI: The parapet wall of a private school building was partly damaged on Friday when lightning struck it.

No one was injured as the school remained closed in the wake of rain.

Parts of the district experienced moderate showers on Friday.

For the 24 hours ended at 8 a.m. today, Udayalipatti experienced a maximum of 81 mm; Keeranur 50 mm; Dhanakottai 41 mm; Karambakudi 32 mm; Mazhaiyur and Viralimalai 30 mm each; Alankudi 20 mm; Pudukottai 14 mm; Manamelkudi 10 mm and Aranthangi recorded 4 mm.

Minister inspects fields

Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy visited a number of coastal villages in Manamelkudi and Avudaiyarkovil taluks on Friday. He enquired with the farmers the extent of damage caused to the standing crops.
