AIADMK condemns attack on Jayalalithaa’s convoy at Pasumpon

Staff Reporter

PROTEST: AIADMK cadres observing a fast in Virudhunagar on Saturday.

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The State Assembly will face elections along with Parliament soon, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader O. Panneerselvam has said.

Speaking at a fast observed by the party here on Saturday to condemn the attack on their leader Jayalalithaa’s convoy at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district last month, he said that the AIADMK would win both the elections.

Stating that AIADMK’s 21-year rule in the State was an achievement by a regional party, he said the party cadre strength, which was 36 lakhs during the party founder M. G. Ramachandran’s days, had grown stronger and stood at one crore under the leadership of Ms. Jayalalithaa.

The State, which was in a position to give surplus power to neighbouring States during the AIADMK regime, faced power shortage now.

Referring to the attack on students of law college in Chennai and the attack on Ms. Jayalalithaa’s convoy at Pasumpon, he said that law and order had deteriorated in the State. The police had failed to provide adequate security to Ms. Jayalalithaa during her recent visits to Theni, Rasipuram and Pasumpon.

Party cadres, including organising secretary, S. Gokula Indira, took part in the fast. District unit secretary K. K. Sivakasamy, Rajapalayam MLA M. Chandra, municipal Vice-Chairpersons S.A. Manikandaraja (Rajapalayam) and K.T. Rajendra Balaji (Tiruthangal), and town secretary S. Ashokan were among those who participated in the fast.
