Creative: Pratap Bahuroopi working on a painting in Chitradurga on Sunday. Chitradurga: The “splendour of nature” has been the governing theme for the solo painting exhibition of artist Pratap Bahuroopi. The artist, who has used his canvas extensively for landscape painting, presented his collection at the Rotary Bal Bhavan here on Sunday. Although the exhibition, organised by the Rotary Club and the SJM College of Arts, was mainly for art students, a number of people visited the exhibition. Bahuroopi, an alumnus of Hampi University, has been a diligent painter since his childhood. Having spent his childhood in a small town in Belguam district, rural life has specifically inspired him, which is evident in his work. Specialising in tribal and nomadic life, Bahuroopi says he spent nearly 10 years researching the lives of nomads in the States of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and Andhra Pradesh. He said he had tried to use this experience to write four books, besides incorporating paintings in them that depict their lives. Bahuroopi has also prepared paintings for cover pages as well as inside pages of over 200 books. He also won the second prize in a painting competition on the theme “Better Status for Women in Society” held in Mumbai in 1996. After holding exhibitions in several parts of the country, the former Lalit Kala Academy member, said he was here to guide students of the SJM College of Arts in their profession. Exhibiting nearly 75 paintings, he was seen teaching them the nuances of art. Currently working as a lecturer in a private art college in Hubli, Bahuroopi said exhibitions acted as a bridge between the people and the artist. The two-day exhibition closed on Sunday.
