TENHIPALAM: The sixth Kerala Arabic students’ conference, organised by the Mujahid Students Movement (MSM), held on the Calicut University campus here on Sunday called for a collective of secular student forces to resist the increasing attempts by terrorist and fascist elements to make inroads into campuses. The meeting pointed out that differences within major political parties and their thrust on vote-bank politics had contributed largely to the growth of terrorist forces in the country. The failure of the authorities in taking prompt action on the basis of reports submitted by various commissions that inquired into incidents of communal violence had also contributed to the growth terrorism, the meeting noted. The meeting registered protested against the government’s ‘neglect towards Arabic education in the State.’ The State government, it said, had adopted a policy of destroying Arabic education in a phased manner. Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) president T.P. Abdullakoya Madani inaugurated the conference. M.S.M. president K. Shahadad presided over the function. KNM education board chairman Karuvally Mohammed Moulavi gave away awards to the winners of MSM Quran learning examinations. Kutty Ahamed Kutty, MLA, inaugurated the MSM scholarship scheme. C.H. Ashique, Calicut University Syndicate member; P.V. Valsaraj, Calicut University Students Welfare Dean; N.A.M. Abdul Khadir, Head of the Department of Arabic, Calicut University; and Sayed Mohammed Shakir, president of the Ithihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen; addressed the gathering.
