Campus violence

It was distressing to see the violence in law college, Chennai, on November 12. It is ironical that these students who should be the guardians of law tomorrow have indulged in such savagery. This is because of lack of moral values in today’s generation.

The inaction by the police, who were mute spectators to the violence, was shameful. Severe action should be taken not only against the students but also the policemen who did not perform their duty.

Heritage railway

In September the print and the electronic media highlighted the grand celebration of the heritage railway system and facilities offered to tourists and passengers from different parts of the country and abroad. On November 11 I happened to visit the so-called beautiful Udhagamandalam railway station and the park in front of the station. I saw the gates on both sides of the entrance locked to stop entry into the park.

The newly-constructed toilet inside the platform was also found locked. I noticed the difficulty of the passengers who arrived at Udhagamandalam by 12 noon by the train, which started from Mettupalayam by 7 a.m. and has no toilet facilities.
