dated December 1, 1958: Gandhiji’s ideals

Prime Minister Nehru stressed the need for “self-discipline, hard work and team-spirit” among the people for fulfilment of the national development plans and achievement of the socialistic pattern of society. “Enshrine the memory and teachings of Gandhiji in your hearts” – this was his message in a sixty-minute address to about four lakhs of people packing the Esplanade Maidan in Calcutta on November 30 at the formal unveiling of a double life-sized bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi done by the famous sculptor, Devi Prasad Roy Chaudhury.
