This Day That Age
The Vice-President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, said in Calcutta on November 30, that there was no opposition between science and religion, though there was opposition between science and superstition. Delivering the address at the Jagadish Bose centenary, the Vice-President said that the simple and deep-seated conviction in the human mind that there was unitary whole which manifested as a manifold was for the scientist a hypothesis which called for experimental testimony. For the religious seer it was an act of faith that proved itself through experience. Throughout the cosmic process there was continuity and progress. “We cannot revive the past but build better on the foundations furnished by it. The present shall grow into a nobler future through our efforts. It was Bose’s ambition to carry on our investigation and research, to enrich the world by their results and reach the goal of an enduring brotherhood. Let us work for this goal for the good of mankind and the glory of God.”
