Mangled metal: The vehicle that was involved in an accident at Nandihalli Cross in Hiriyur taluk of Chitradurga district on Sunday. Chitradurga: Five persons, including two women were killed and four children suffered minor injuries in a road accident at Nandihalli Cross of Hiriyur taluk early on Sunday. The police have identified the victims as Firoz (32), his wife Nafisa (28), Fayaz (30) and his wife Nazima (28). The driver of their vehicle also died, but his identity is yet to be established. According to the police, the family was travelling to Hubli from Bangalore to see a close relative who had suffered a heart attack. The police said the accident occurred when the driver hit a stray cow, which was crossing the road, and then collided with a lorry. The four children were seated at the back. Of the four, Saniya (8), Fazil (7) and Aleem (5) are Firoz’s children, and Ibrahim (4) is the son of Fayaz. Nazima and Nafisa were sisters. The families live at Bharatinagar in Bangalore. The Hiriyur police have registered a case.
