MANAGLORE: Over 1,000 people took out a procession in an attempt to create awareness about AIDS here on Monday. A formal function followed the rally from the Light House Hill to Town Hall. Paramedical and social work students from 12 different institutes in the city participated in it. It was organised to mark AIDS Awareness Day by the Janasevanjali Charitable Trust. The jatha highlighted how AIDS does not spread by touching the victims and how staying committed to one partner would help prevent the spread of the disease. In the public meeting later, Principal of Roshni Nilaya Jasintha D’Souza regretted that HIV infected people suffered from sense of alienation and that it was extremely important that society accepted them. Former Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University B.M. Hegde advised the students of Para-medicine and Social Work “look after your patients the way you would like to be looked after when you are sick”.
