Glorious moments: Students of Ambrose Higher Secondary School, Meignanapuram, with the trophies won at the athletic competitions. (Below) The workshop on ‘collaborative learning’ under way at the Leader’s Matriculation School, Karaikudi. A block-level conference on consumer awareness was held at S.H.N. Ethel Harvey Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Sattur. Elocution and essay competitions on consumer awareness and an exhibition on adulteration were conducted for students of high and higher secondary schools and self-help groups of Sattur at the conference. C. Saroja, Headmistress, spoke about children’s rights and responsibilities. S. Subramanian, president, consumer protection service centre, in his presidential address, spoke about adulteration in cereals and said that the consumer must protest restrictive trade practices. Students of S.H.N. Ethel Harvey Girls’ Higher Secondary School and A.V. Higher Secondary School won prizes in the exhibition on adulteration. L. Rajagopal, Taluk Supply Officer, gave away prizes to the winners. L. Valli proposed a vote of thanks. Athletic competitionsAmbrose Higher Secondary School, Megnanapuram, Tuticorin district, won the championship for boys in the recent athletic competitions for Tuticorin educational district organised at Margoschis Higher Secondary School, Nazareth. Students representing the school won five first prizes, seven second prizes and two third prizes in the event. Individual championship went to R. Rathinabalan in the junior (under 14) category. The correspondent, S. E. A. Jesudoss, the Headmaster, A. Johnson Paul Daniel, and staff members felicitated the winners and the Physical Education Teacher J. Sathiyaraj Samuel for the achievement. Workshop held on collaborative learningA workshop for teachers on ‘Collaborative learning process meeting the needs of students was conducted by Bernadette Anand and Vinoth Z. J. Anand from New York at The Leader’s Matriculation School, Karaikudi. It focused on collaborative learning, inquiry based learning and prior knowledge. Creating awareness of reading and thinking among students was emphasised in the place of regular lecture-based teaching. The teachers enacted various roles that would be applied in regular teaching curriculum. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness among teachers of innovation in teaching techniques that would make curriculum interesting for learners. R.M. Rajamanickam, correspondent, presided. Principals Jalaja Kumari and Mohammed Sikander also spoke. Children’s Day celebratedThe Children’s Day was celebrated at Sivakasi Hindu Nadars’ Girl’s Middle School, Sivakasi, with elocution, essay, drawing, music and dance competitions for students. The correspondent, C.R. Velayuthum Nadar, in his presidential address, advised the children to work hard to make the nation proud. Sivagami Kathiresan distributed prizes to winners of various competitions. The Headmistress, A. Grahalakshmi, welcomed the gathering and V. Sivanantham proposed a vote of thanks. (Compiled by S.
