School children display their painting prowess

NEW DELHI: The 14th edition of the The Hindu Young World On-The-Spot Painting Competition-2008 was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School on Kasturba Gandhi Marg here on Sunday. As many as 350 children from 37 schools here participated in the annual event.

There were two different categories for children who took part in the competition. While one section comprised “Juniors” from Class IV to VII, the other was “Seniors” from Class VIII to X.

The topics under the junior category were “A scene at Metro station” or “A scene at fair/mela”. And the seniors had to choose between “Election meeting” and “Scene at a marriage function”.

In each category, ten prizes — first, second and third and seven consolation prizes — were given away. While the first prize was a cash award of Rs.1,250, the second prize was Rs.1,000 and the third Rs.750. Consolation prize winners got Rs.200 each.

The winners also received prizes from Lotte Boo Proo, sponsors of the event. The winners were awarded certificates. All the participants were also given certificates for participation. Brothers Rajiv and Mohit won the first prize in both the categories.

In the senior category, the first prize went to Rajiv, a Class IX student of Evergreen Public School at Vasundhara Enclave, while the second prize was bagged by Nayanika Priyam, a Class X student of Delhi Public School at Vasant Kunj. The third prize went to Priya Chauhan of Class IX of DLF Public School in Sahibabad.

As for the winners in junior category, the first prize went to Mohit of Class VII of Evergreen Public School. While the second prize was bagged by Yashika Gulati of Class VI of Goodley Public School at Shalimar Bagh. The third prize went to Himashu of Class VI of Apeejay School at Saket.

Eminent artists M.S. Rawat and M.K. Puri were the judges and also gave away the prizes.
