KOTTAYAM: Alappuzha held the upperhand against Kollam on a dramatic day’s play in which 23 wickets fell in the South Zone under-14 inter-district cricket tournament at the St. Ephreme’s School ground on Monday. Kollam did well to dismiss Alappuzha for 137 in 37 overs. However, the Alappuzha bowlers Balu Babu (five for eight) and Sreejith (three for 11) hit back to dismiss Kollam for 44. In its second innings, Alappuzha was eight for three at stumps. At the University stadium, Thiruvananthapuram was in command against Pathanamthitta. After scoring 222 in its first innings, Thiruvananthapuram bundled out Pathanamthitta for 80. The scores: Alappuzha 137 in 37 overs (Ashok Chandran 63, Vishnu Babu four for 39) & eight for three in five overs v Kollam 44 in 20 overs (Balu Babu five for eight, Sreejith three for 11). Thiruvananthapuram 222 in 68.5 overs (Cibin Prakash 48, Justin three for 25) & 15 for no loss in four overs v Pathanamthitta 80 in 20.2 overs (Ajay Sharma three for 18, Rahul Raghavan three for 11). — Principal Correspondent
