Foreign tourist couple found dead in hotel

Staff Reporter

A case of suspected drug overdose

NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old foreign tourist has died and her 55-year-old husband has been admitted to a hospital in a serious condition in what is suspected to be a case of drug overdose. The two had been staying at a hotel in Karol Bagh.

The incident came to light when a waiter discovered the couple semi-conscious in the Sun City Hotel room around 9-30 a.m. The hotel staff first called a doctor who told them to take the two to a hospital. The police were also informed.

Okoru Odda, a Japanese national, was declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital. Her husband Agase Jean Marry, a French national, has been admitted to Lady Hardinge Hospital and is not fit for statement.

The police said prima facie it seemed a case of drug overdose, though all possibilities were being looked into. “We have not been able to record the statements as the woman was declared brought dead at the hospital and her husband is not fit for statement. But we have not found anything suspicious in the room, which has now been sealed,” said a police officer.

Another version of the incident was that Agase approached the hotel staff in the morning saying his wife had not been feeling well after breakfast. He reportedly asked the hotel staff to arrange for some medical aid. But when the doctor reached the hotel, the condition of Agase also deteriorated.

The couple had checked into the hotel on November 2. They had returned to the hotel on Sunday after a long trip to Varanasi and were scheduled to check out in the evening.
