More relief sought

CHENNAI: The CPI (M) on Monday urged the State government to give Rs.5,000 to all the families affected by the flood in Chennai and its suburbs, besides rice and kerosene.

The party’s south Chennai district secretary G. Bheema Rao and north Chennai district secretary T.K. Shanmugam said that the performance of the Chennai Corporation in pumping out stagnant water was far from satisfactory. Urging the government to supply protected drinking water, they said that blocks in sewage canals should be removed on a war-footing.

“The roads, completely ravaged in the rain, should be relaid within a timeframe,” they said.
