BANGALORE: Children from nearly 40 schools will be vying for honours during the Third Inter-School Soccer Tournament starting from December 6 with the theme “Healthy children make a healthy community”. Besides gaining spirit of sportsmanship and competition, a press release said that the children would also get a complete football kit from Columbia Asia. Children in the age group of 10 to 14 are eligible to participate in this tournament. “We believe that the health of the community rests in the health and fitness of its children. Our association with this spirited game of soccer over the last three years is to establish this belief. About 32 schools participated last year and we expect participation from at least 40 schools from across Bangalore this year,” said Tufan Ghosh, CEO of Columbia Asia Hospitals. Forty teams will be divided into 13 groups comprising three teams each. Top team from each group will qualify for the knock out stage (pre-quarter finals) and two top second placed teams will also qualify. Last year’s winner will get a direct entry to the pre-quarter finals. Each game will be of 40 minutes with a five-minute break, the release said.
